DEMOCRACY WON, WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE?
Yeah, the just concluded election in osun state is a victory for democracy but it is still a loss to the people. Morality and competence rarely align together in democracy anywhere and ours is not different. The game is about winning by all means necessary, just don’t get caught. If you are caught, explain it away or point at someone else doing it too.
The highest bidder won this election, the biggest spender won. Both are morally guilty but Oyetola appears more competent than Adeleke sadly Nigerian voters don’t vote competence. This is due to many reasons, poverty inclusive. Every path looks like the path to a lost man. The poverty is massive on the street. However even with vote buying, it is obvious the majority want Oyetola gone. If APC could lose in Osogbo, it means all is not well with the party and their government.
One major strategy of politicians during campaign is to help the electorate shift the blame of their misfortune on someone else. It always works though. Senator Nurudeen Adeleke is a mere compensation for the demise of Senator Isiaka Adeleke. It’s never about the people, fortunately they are buoyant enough to bankroll an election many times over.
I often wonder why we are so backward. Is it merely because our leaders are wicked or incompetent, could it be that the peoples’ are only reaping what they have sown? At least we watch movies and see how things look elsewhere. I still believe the quality of leadership we have is a reflection of the mindset of many Nigeria.
I sincerely look forward to a surprisingly great state under the leadership of Senator Adeleke. That’s the best I can wish for. I love him for the fact that at that age with all he’s been through, fun lives rent free in his head.
