HOW TO DO CHARITIES AND PHILANTHROPIES?
As believers, our acts of charity or philanthropy must not only take away the surface or outward needs of the people, it must also take away the root cause of their affliction. This is why preaching the gospel is our fundamental act of charity. Jesus Christ our savior and Lord did a lot of good works, solved a lot of problems, and in addition at all times, He forgave sin and instructed people to avoid sin as this was the root cause of their infirmities or challenges.
Everybody we help out of a challenging condition must return to us not for the sake of solving the previous problems all over again but for relationship or friendship among other things. Jesus challenged those who followed Him right after the miracle of food multiplication implying that they are following for food and nothing else. The goal of Jesus was not to solve their hunger problem, it is to solve their relationship issues with their creator. If that is resolved, food availability will not be a concern.
Philanthropies, charity, and outreaches that don’t end with a call for people to find justification in God through Christ are largely a waste. Humans can’t satisfy one another’s ultimate desires neither can we offer fulfillment to each other through mere good works. Only a purposeful life that has been designed by the giver of life can satisfy a man. Amazingly only a relationship with God through Jesus Christ can deliver the true cravings of man.
