WHAT TYPE OF JOB ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

WHAT TYPE OF JOB ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

Calm down, you may have the ability or potential but you will not be found suitable for every job. I muttered this to myself after an interview I went for ended within fifteen minutes. I was applying for any job that looked remotely close to the ideal job I felt I qualified for. One particular NGO shortlisted me for an interview, the generic job title is what I can do but they required experience in a particular area. I wasn’t so familiar with this field but I was determined to give it a try.

48 hours before the interview, I started having a double mind but I wasn’t going to back out just like that.  The interview began by being asked to talk about my recent projects. They expected to hear about an experience in a similar role. I didn’t have that but I shared what I had. The body language from the panel started suggesting to me that all wasn’t well. Finally, the consultant to the project just cut in and declared his feelings. He said my experience was far from what they were looking for and probably the process of shortlisting was faulty. He suggested that we stop the interview to which everybody agreed.

It was later on while reflecting that I also felt it was good that we stopped the conversation. Continuing for a long time only to be politely or otherwise turned down may be dangerous to my self-esteem. Then I reflected on myself that I’m intelligent, I have the right training, and I have experience though not relevant technically to all fields. That the NGO chose to stop does not take anything away from me. I may not be suitable for their role but I’m suitable for other interesting roles. I just need to find those roles.

It is to the advantage of everyone to have a compass or guidelines that influence our definition of relevance. This will save us poor self-esteem that may come from events that look like setbacks. If I’m allergic to ginger and I’m aware of it, I won’t be mad if I’m denied a ginger drink at an event. Having the holy spirit in us brings comforting thoughts during challenging situations like this.

All men were created with uniqueness and we must find the essence of our existence. Be happy knowing that God created you with a plan. Jesus also came for our redemption and reunion with God having our uniqueness in mind among other things.

Jesus is calling you, do not pretend like you do not hear.

Peace unto you.
